Pricing

What it costs to do electrical work right

We do not guess at a price over the phone. We look at the job, then explain the work and the price before we start. Here is what drives the cost.

Every electrical job is a little different, so we do not hand out a flat price without seeing the work. What we do is look first, figure out what the job actually takes, and then tell you the price before we turn a screw.

The things below are what change the scope of a job. They are not a quote. Call or text us and we will talk through yours.

What drives the price

  • Panel age and brand

An older panel, or a brand like Federal Pacific or Zinsco that inspectors and insurers flag, often needs to go. Replacing the panel is a bigger job than swapping a breaker.

  • Amperage

A 100 amp to 200 amp upgrade is common when you add loads. More capacity means a bigger panel, bigger wire, and sometimes a new meter base.

  • Distance from the panel

The farther the new circuit runs from the panel, the more wire and labor it takes. A charger in a detached garage costs more to wire than one on the wall next to the panel.

  • Attic and crawlspace access

If we can stand up in the attic or crawl under the house, the wire runs fast. Tight or missing access slows the job down and adds time.

  • Wall type

Open framing during new construction or a remodel is the easy path. Finished plaster, brick, or tile means we have to plan the route and sometimes open walls.

  • Permit and inspection requirements

Cities that run their own permit and inspection programs add steps and fees. Outside city limits there is often no city permit. The license requirement still applies either way.

  • Utility coordination

A service change means coordinating with your electric utility or co-op for the disconnect and reconnect. That scheduling is part of the job.

  • Materials

The panel, breakers, wire, boxes, and fixtures you choose all affect the job. We explain what you are getting and why.

  • Whether walls need to be opened

Some jobs let us fish wire through existing walls. Others need drywall or plaster opened and patched. We map the access points with you before we start.

We look first, then price

We come out, see what the job really takes, and explain the work and the price before we start. No surprises and no vague hourly billing. You know what you are paying for.
