| Setup | What it includes | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| Portable, essentials | Exterior inlet box + interlock kit or manual transfer switch | A few circuits like the fridge, lights, and a fan |
| Portable, most of the house | Manual transfer switch or interlock + load calculation | Most circuits, rotating the big loads |
| Standby, whole home | Standby generator + automatic transfer switch + load calculation | Everything, starts on its own, hands off |
Generator hookup questions
Can I just plug my generator into my dryer outlet?
No. Never plug a generator into a dryer or wall outlet. Backfeeding can kill utility workers and damage your home. We use a transfer switch or interlock kit so that cannot happen.
What is a load calculation and why do I need one?
A load calculation adds up what you want to run during an outage so we can size the generator and the connection to match. It keeps the generator from overloading and the wiring safe.
Do you do the gas line for a standby generator?
Gas line work in Texas is done by a licensed plumber. We coordinate with them on that part while we handle the electrical side.
Where should I put my generator?
Portable generators belong outside, away from doors and windows, because of carbon monoxide. Standby units sit on a pad outside the home. We help you pick the right spot.
